Role of the Greater Memphis Workforce Development Board

The Workforce Development Board of Directors is a dynamic group of private and public sector partners, in partnership with local elected officials providing leadership, direction and policy oversight for the workforce delivery system in Greater Memphis to promote economic mobility and growth. Its members are appointed by the local county mayor and confirmed by the Governor.

Workforce Development Boards must be majority private sector/business leaders from throughout the four-county service region. The Board is composed of a diverse group of people actively engaged in the community with knowledge of the local labor market and aligns resources towards effective workforce development in order to meet local area needs.
